The Reborn: The Book of Dain Tour

Book Info

Title-The Reborn: The Book of Dain
by Casse Narome
Genre -YA Paranormal Romance
Release date 3/21/13 from Bayou Brew Publishing

Dain has lived a total of ninety-nine different lifetimes and in every single one he has loved the same girl. But now Tara is gone and in her place there stands Bonnie, the complete opposite of Tara. Is Dain's shot at love over or has he lived all these lives because he has been loving the wrong girl?

Oh my God. I held my breath. This was going to happen. The giddiness was almost too much to take, but as she unzipped my pants, I heard a door upstairs open and close with a bang.

We both froze.

Bonnie’s eyes opened wide with obvious terror.

“Holy shit,” I whispered. “Your parents?”

She shook her head and pushed me off of her. “Worse. My brothers.”

I jumped up and scooped up our shirts before I tossed her one. I buttoned my jeans in a mad rush and shook out the shirt as the basement door opened. I glanced at the shirt in my hand, frowned at how tiny it looked, and groaned. Yes, I had tossed Bonnie a shirt, the wrong shirt. As the stairs creaked, I looked over at Bonnie and her enormous eyes widened even more.

“That’s mine,” she whispered, my shirt nearly drowning her body.

I groaned again as two boys stepped into the room and one pair of feet stopped just an inch from a condom that I must have abandoned when Bonnie had pushed me away.

I saw the guys soak in the scene—me with no shirt on, Bonnie swallowed by the wrong one. The taller of the two bent and picked up the condom at his feet. Where was the second condom? Collectively, our gazes moved to my hand where the second condom and Bonnie’s shirt still lingered.

I couldn’t move, other than to let the shirt and the partially opened condom wrapper fall from my hand. Bonnie shut her eyes tight as the condom, of course, landed on top of the shirt.

Both guys frowned angrily as they glared at me. The smaller one, who still stood at six foot something, spoke, “Your fly is open.”

I was dead.

YA Fiction, 204 pages

LARP: The Battle for Verona
Sometimes even a geek can become a hero.

Dennis and his friends have been LARPing (Live Action Role Playing) since high school. Now, in his 20s, Dennis is seriously considering giving up LARPing for good. He’s tired of dealing with his overzealous friend Mark; he’s tired of his older brother Brad's constant put-downs; and he’s tired of the fact that he doesn’t have a girlfriend.

Check that.

Not a girlfriend, but the girlfriend. Alyssa--the one woman he’s been pining over for years.

Dennis and his fellow LARPers have never been considered cool, in their small island community of Verona, located off the coast of Washington State.

But all of that is about to change . . .

While Dennis and his friends are attending a big LARP tournament on the mainland, a rogue terrorist group of Mongolians in medieval garb, led by an American madman, invade Verona and take its citizens hostage--including their families and friends.

When the LARPers find out what’s happening in their home-town, they do what any dedicated LARPer would do: they put on their armor, strap on their swords, and fight their way home--LARP-style!

She looked into their non-existent faces and felt them smile in anticipation.

The light is fading fast and Esa must find shelter before the deviants come crawling out of the woodwork. From the moment she steps into the darkened room her life takes a terrifying turn and she is pulled away from her post apocalyptic world.

With a horde of goblins close on her heels, she enters a magical realm in search of answers. Why can she sense magic and why is a powerful sorcerer determined to end her life?
I thought Pulse was really good!
It was most definitely a different type of read. I must admit that it was hard for me to get into at first. I pushed on and I am glad I did.  I know it's hard when a book is not easy to start of with (The Host is still one for me...LOL...but I love the IDEA of the Host).
I would love to vote for this book to be either a movie or maybe even a mini series...GOTTA love those!
Thank you HJ for a great read! I hope to read more from you!!  <3
“Amy,” he screamed, yet she heard nothing, busy with her own fight. Blood boiled; hate seeping from his very core as he fought to reach her, to stop her. Cutting, slashing, destroying anything that stood in his path he moved inch by inch toward Amy and away from Esa. She no longer carried her staff, but swung a sword this way and that, slicing arms and legs as she turned full circle. He watched as she disarmed an elf and pushed him to the floor. Raising her sword she prepared to strike, but her sword clashed against steel as Thomas finally reached her.

“So you found her,” she said, nodding in Esa’s direction. “Eventually. Shame you weren’t a little quicker.” He said nothing because of the bile building inside his mouth and he spat at her feet.
“Did she show you my handy work?” She jabbed at his chest and he brushed it to one side before returning the strike.
“I’ve seen what you did.” Each word stuck in his throat.
“Good, nice to know. And our conversation was so stimulating, isn’t it a shame you can’t see the mental scars.” A sneer appeared on her face.
Unable to speak he lunged forward, in his anger he mistimed his strike. She moved to her left and drove the sword into his side. He staggered back a few paces, his hand reaching for the wound before recovering.
“What did you do?” he yelled as he charged forward.
“That girl’s very brave,” she managed to say as a rain of blows pushed her back. “But it’s not me you should be worrying about. He has plans for her.”
“What does he want with her?” he yelled.
“It’s going to mean her death, but not before he has his fun.”
“He’ll never get close enough, I won’t allow it.” His sword brushed her arm and she jumped back, bumping into a gorell.
Smiling she added, “It’s not up to you, I think you’ll be a little busy.” She pushed the gorell before her, but Thomas stuck the sword deep into the creature’s chest as it took a step forward. Struggling to pull the sword out he felt another jab, this time in his arm.
He only had one thought in his mind and that was to kill this human. The one who had caused Esa so much pain, left her battered and dying. There was no way she could know that Esa would heal. Charging forward, the anger giving him the strength, he lunged for her. She tripped over a fallen goblin as she staggered back. Unable to keep her feet she fell, losing her sword as she did.
“You can’t do this. I can tell you what he’s going to do. I could tell you how to stop him.”
“I don’t care, he can’t have her.” The tip of his sword rested at her throat.
“If you don’t spare me they’ll be no way to save her. She’ll die.”
“Not before you.”

Witch Weigh By Caroline Mickelson

Book Info-
Witch Weigh
By Caroline Mickelson
Publication Date: April 24, 2012 Novella length - 30K word paranormal romantic comedy

Book Blurb-
Tessa Von Hellengaard is a real witch. Magical spells aside, she’s snarky and selfish, and the other witches in her silent spell coven are fed up with her. Their plan to reform Tessa involves taking away her magic, saddling her with one hundred extra pounds, and sending her to a weight loss spa. For good measure they call in Liam Kennedy, a charming and sexy fairy godfather, to teach her some manners. Desperate to regain her magic and determined to shed the weight, Tessa soon realizes that protecting her heart from Liam will prove to be her greatest challenge.

“Hey, lady, anyone ever tell you you’re a real witch?”

“More times than you can imagine.” Contessa Von Hellengaard, Tessa to her few friends and many enemies alike, eyed the obstinate construction worker who blocked the path of her sleek black Mercedes.

She wondered how this mere mortal would like being turned into a fluffy skunk. Her fingers itched to work their magic, but she kept them gripped on the steering wheel. She was already in enough trouble with the Upper Hallows Witch Council without casting what they would consider another unnecessary spell. If she was detained any longer she’d be late for her meeting with said council. Tessa knew they were already ticked off enough without her adding another infraction to their precious list.

She leaned out the window. “Remove your overfed self from my way immediately. I need to use this road and I don’t have time for your ridiculous detour.”

“Guess you should’ve used your broomstick then because there ain’t no way I’m letting your car get through here.” He crossed his beefy arms over his chest.

He seemed altogether too amused with his juvenile humor for Tessa’s liking. Broomstick indeed. She revved the motor to let him know she meant business.

He couldn’t say he hadn’t been warned.

She pushed up her black lace sleeves and pointed to the orange and white barricade. “Last warning. Remove yourself and that thing from my way.”

He laughed at her. Laughed. At her.

She narrowed her eyes. This sorry excuse for a government employee was not going to make her late for her meeting. Removing him from her path, she decided, was a very necessary act indeed. She could make the council members understand. But only if she got there on time.

With the tip of her red lacquered fingernail she traced a circle in her palm, silently reciting the spell that would get her what she wanted. A small, satisfied smile tugged at her lips as the man in front of her began to levitate. She stroked her index finger sideways to help direct his ascension. His shocked expression and angry torrent of curse words bothered her not at all. He continued to fuss and kick even after he was hooked on to the high crane by the back of his overalls. At over forty feet above the ground she could barely make out his foul words.

Tessa flicked her finger across her palm with one last quick swipe and waited while the barricade went flying to the side of the road and crashed on a pile of rocks.

She waved farewell to the construction worker as she slipped her Mercedes into drive. The fool would be wise to quit struggling or he’d soon have a painful wedgie.

Silly mortal. He had no reason to panic. Someone would be along to get him down.

Kim's Review

I really enjoyed this book! Tessa is a real pain in the butt.  She has a better than thou attitude and thinks that everything should go her way. Then, she gets her powers taken away and is sent to a weight loss camp with an extra 100 pounds on her.  She is given a "fairy godmother" to help teach her how to better herself, the only plus is its a guy, a hot one at that, named Liam.

While Tessa and Liam are at the camp, things start to change, sparks start to fly, and Tessa starts to become a better person and maybe, just maybe, her magic will come back. But there is something that Tessa doesn't know, something that can change everything.

Even though Tessa starts out as a unlikable character, you start to connect with her while reading the book and I found myself wishing good things for her.  Watching her transfer from a egotistical witch to one that cares really made this story for me!

If you are looking for a great book to read, check out Witch Weigh! It is sure to please you!

Of Gaea By Victoria Escobar

Of Gaea

Book #1 in the Of Legacies Series

By Victoria Escobar

Publication Date: March 20, 2013

Cover Designed by Art is Life: Cover and Art Design:

Her choice will change the world.

She hated the wheelchair. Hated the way it made her feel less than what she was. Most of all she hated not being able to do all the things she used to. Ari had been a track and field star, an archery champion and an Eskrima pro. Now she was confined to a wheelchair slowly dying inside from its restraints.

Medical science wasn’t working. The tests, the drugs, the therapies were all useless and a waste of time. She was tired of wasting her time; she was tired of failure. It was time to look away from the obvious and try something unconventional.

Nothing was ever free and that included miracles. Abruptly, Ari finds herself tangled in a web of lies, questioning everything she’s ever known as truth. Never had she believed she’d be thrown headfirst into a world of good and evil, magic and Gods.

Trapped in the middle of a war she had never known existed both parties demanded her allegiance. Ari was a catalyst that could change all the rules of the Earth. But when the time comes to make a choice will she be strong enough to know right from wrong?

“Are there others?” Ari murmured quietly and the air buzzed incessantly with random bits of conversation again.

“Just started walking out of nowhere.”

“She was probably faking it.”

“It’s a miracle you know.”

She grabbed onto the last one. “There are no such things as miracles.” Was the response.

“Then what was it, for that poor girl to get hit by a car and be crippled then be able to walk again eight months later?”

“Magic. Wasn’t it?” The last part seemed to be directed at her. With it, she felt like something hit her, and she flew backwards and the papasan toppled. Her ears were ringing and she couldn’t tell up from down.

“You can’t be left alone can you?” A pair of feet entered her field of vision and she followed them up to see Leonidas staring down at her. He bent down to sit her up and with the motion the world swirled into a kaleidoscope of color and motion.

Leonidas cursed and Ari felt something trickle down her face. She swiped at her face and her hand went through a sticky liquid. The red fluid was a surprise. “My nose is bleeding.” She stated dumbly.

“Obviously.” Leonidas dragged Ari over to the wicker seat and sat her down. “Sit here. Don’t bleed on the furniture and no more gifts for right now. Give me a second.” He vanished back into the house.

Ari sat as still as possible. She felt like she had just gone a round with a heavy weight boxing champ and lost. Her body was starting to ache for no reason and when she couldn’t take the incessant pounding in her head anymore she dropped it between her knees.

“Oh good, you’re already in position.”

Before Ari could lift her head to utter a sound her head was yanked up by her hair something was placed in her lap then her hair was let go and her head fell into the bowl.

It looked like water, steaming. When she inhaled the cough couldn’t be prevented but there was something in the steam that cleared the fog from her mind.

“A few more inhales just like that. Then you can tell me what you were doing.”

Ari reluctantly did as he instructed and slowly sat back. Surprisingly, Leonidas had a cloth ready and gently wiped her face. His eyes were intense, not in affection, but irritation and possible frustration.

“What were you doing without a guide?”

Ari cocked her head quizzically. “A guide?”

“What has Nasya been teaching you?” He sat back. “A guide, a teacher, a mentor. Technically, you shouldn’t try things without a second to help you out until you understand it.”

“I’m not an invalid.”

“No you’re not, but you’re new. It’s like riding a bicycle without a helmet and knee pads. You don’t do that until you’ve gotten so good you can ride with no hands without falling. You just rode without hands and crashed into a brick wall.”

“Thanks for the analogy.”

Kim's Review

Fade to Silver is a must read that you have to add to your list! The story picks up pretty much right where it stops in The In Between. Addie is in college trying to be normal and still working with the IPA just “above ground.” Dannika is back at IPA, but she remembers pretty much nothing, including Addie. They are trying to do research and tests and are trying to help her get her memory back. But then a few things happen, while Addie is out with Jeff (SWOON), they spot Rens, who was a part of the murders from the first book in the series and he is looking for Addie. Being above ground is no longer safe and to add to it Addie is having dreams that are not her own and she goes back to working full time for the IPA to figure it all out. Not to mention, Dannika leaves the research area to try and prove that she can handle the city on her own. While out in the Wilderness, something happens and Dannika disappears. Who could be behind this? Why is Addie in someone else’s dreams instead of her own?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was incredibly well written and kept me hanging on by a thread as to what could happen next. It’s got suspense, action, love. Three things that make a really awesome book! I could not put this one down! I even found myself so excited about what could happen next that I wanted to flip to the end, but I was able to contain myself. Ms. Converse has created an excellent series that you are bound to get wrapped in. Do yourself a huge favor and get both these books if you haven’t read them!

Fate and Fury Blog Tour

Fate and Fury is Book Number 6 in the Grey Wolves series by Quinn Loftis!

The last few days have been the darkest of Sally’s life.  After experiencing the joy of finding her mate, she now suffers the pain of losing everything she holds dear. Both the Romanian and Serbian packs have been captured, ripping Sally’s soul mate away from her almost as soon as she had found him. Her best friend and the emotional glue that usually holds Sally together, Jacque Pierce, lies writhing in a restless coma, having been put down by Desdemona’s dark magic. Jennifer Adams, the unshakable one, has revealed to her friends and her mate that she is pregnant, but the Fates have marked her unborn baby for death.  Though she rails against the darkness, deep inside Jen knows that Decebel’s baby must die as payment for her own life, and the knowledge is tearing her soul to pieces. Cypher, King of the Warlocks, has claimed Jacque’s mother as his mate and agreed to help Desdemona open a door that would release a horde of demons from beyond the Veil.

Though her world is crashing down around her, Sally holds out hope.  The Great Luna is not sitting idly by.  She has commanded the Fey council to call upon the packs—all of them.  And though Cypher looks for a way to open the Veil for Desdemona, he struggles to protect Lilly and the wolves at the same time.  Peri, the ever-courageous High Fae, and a contingent of the remaining females of the Romanian and Serbian packs, push on through the rough Carpathian Mountains. Though they are bound to the human realm, they continue to search for a way to cross over to the land of the Fey. Meanwhile, in reluctant obedience to the Great Luna, the Fey council sends representatives to the far corners of the globe, meeting with the pack Alphas.  The Fey must convince the Alphas of every pack to lay aside their petty territorial squabbles and battles of dominance. If they refuse, both the humans and the supernatural races will fall at Mona’s feet.

Sally holds to a shred of hope. Though Vasile, Decebel, and their pack mates endure the torture of the In-Between, living their worst nightmares over and over, Sally holds. Though she knows that it is only a matter of time before their wolves take over, she holds. Sally knows that if the males die, then so too will their mates who have performed the Blood Rites, including her best friends Jen and Jacque.  Yet she holds. If the males lose themselves to their wolves and turn feral, so too do their mates.  Still she holds. Though Vasile, the strongest Alpha in their history to unite the wolves, is lost beyond the Veil, Sally holds.  Though Decebel, the only other wolf besides Vaile strong enough to unite the packs, suffers beyond the Veil, Sally will hold.  No one is left to unite their race, and defeat Desdemona. Yet Sally still holds.  She holds out hope that the Great Luna will not abandon them, cannot abandon them.  Throughout the centuries, the Great Luna has always provided a gypsy healer to the packs, especially in times of great need. Now Sally is that healer. Sally fears what role she has to play in the defeat of Desdemona, but she will play it.  Though heaven and hell unite against her, she WILL play it.

For too long the supernatural races have lived in separation, warring amongst themselves, allowing trivial power plays and selfish disputes to keep them from uniting. That separation has made them weak. Now, being summoned as a collective force to the same land, will they come?  Will they come in numbers greater than have been seen in centuries? Will they destroy each other and save Mona the trouble, or will they finally unite and fight as one?

JAIME: The girls are still on their mission to get their furry(HA like that Kim?) men back from the inbetween. Those girls are having one hell of a time aren't they?
Quinn: Putting it mildly.
KIM: They sure are. I think its probably up until this point the most difficult thing they have had to do. All in the name of love!
JAIME: HA I loved how Peri is starting to take on some of Jen's snarky comments, did you notice that? She had me laughing!
Quinn: Peri was pretty funny in this one, she had some great one liners
KIM: She does! I love that she is starting to come out of her shell and we see her character develop even more into someone so loveable and caring, with a little bit of Jen coming out! She can really put them in their place! But it helps them stay focused, they have a lot to do!
JAIME: Quinn, Seriously....I mean what's next? We are drooling at the moment waiting for the next one!
Quinn: I'm excited about where this story is going, I know it's intense and I know there is a lot going on but I've had a blast writing it.
KIM:   YES!! Quinn, you have us on the edge of our seats waiting to see what happens next! You have really upped the ante!
Quinn: I love this book, it really is my favorite and I hope so much that others feel the same way. Thank you ladies so much for taking time to read it I so greatly appreciate it!
